The steps to model a roof by extrusion in revit are as follows.
On the draw panel select a sketch or pick tool.
If you try to add a roof on the lowest level a dialog prompts you to move it to a higher level.
Once you are in roof by extrusion a dialogue window will open.
Then click finish roof on the ribbon.
Use sloped edges or a slope arrow on a roof to create sloped roof elements.
If you choose not to move the roof to a different level revit notifies you later if the roof is too low.
Change the slope angle of the roof.
Whether you want a double gable roof with 6 pyramid shaped dormers or a simple gambrel roof the basics remain the same.
You want that side of the roof to change to no slope.
